Heroes’ day

SANDTON – Sorbet Man in Sandton City and Lions rugby players created a day of fun and pampering for young boys.

An official rugby players’ organisation, MyPlayers, in partnership with Sorbet Man, a male beauty salon, made a donation to non-profit organisation Abraham Kriel Childcare.

The children’s organisation provides residential care and community services, and provides shelter, care and rehabilitation for children between the ages of birth and 18 who have experienced trauma, abuse, molestation, poverty or neglect.

Elma Smit, marketing and events manager of MyPlayers said, “This players’ charity serves as the official charitable organisation of all professional rugby players in South Africa and funds are distributed to registered charity organisations across the country. “The distributions are made by the professional rugby players generated through their collective commercial funds. Players from the Emirates Lions rugby team have chosen Abraham Kriel Childcare as their organisation of choice.”

As a lead-up to Father’s Day and the Springbok Test against Ireland on 18 June, Sorbet Man was inspired and got on board.

“The players are showing their support of [MyPlayers] and they decided to get involved and they will host the handover of the funds to the Abraham Kriel Childcare,” explained Smit.

In addition, boys of Abraham Kriel Childcare enjoyed a day out with their favourite rugby heroes. The day started at Sorbet Man Sandton City, where the young boys were given haircuts, a meal and some prizes and then ended off with watching a movie.

One of the boys in attendance, 17-year-old Tony Blignaut said, “I am so excited as I am a huge rugby fan. I am loving this day and I myself, play wing in rugby matches. I can’t believe that I am meeting Lions rugby players.”

Letho Dlamini, also 17, received his very first manicure and said he was having the best day.

The Lions rugby players chatted to the youngsters at the salon.
