Student cop busts alleged serial rapist

MARLBORO – Bramley police finally nab alleged serial rapist, five victims later

An alleged serial rapist’s reign of terror finally came to an end recently when Bramley police officers pounced on him after he allegedly raped a woman in Marlboro.

The shocking incident apparently unfolded on 8 May after the latest victim, a woman who resides in Alexandra, entered the accused’s taxi to catch a ride home in the early hours of the morning.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, during the journey, the driver, who was with his friend, promised to drive the woman home after dropping off all the other passengers.

“Instead of taking her home, the accused proceeded to drive to the Marlboro grounds where he ordered the woman to remove her clothes,” he explained.

“The victim refused to remove her clothes and at that point, the man began [allegedly] assaulting her and pushed her to the ground, where he forcibly removed all of her clothes.”

He then allegedly raped the woman before driving off with her to drop off his friend who refused to take part in the crime. It is alleged that after dropping off the friend, the accused then took the woman back to the same spot to rape her again, but was unable to because another car was parked there. He then dropped her off in Marlboro.

Maphakela said, soon after, police officers patrolling the area spotted the woman and took her to the Bramley Police Station where she opened a case.

“Officers, including student police officer, Constable Patrick Tshukudu, then followed up on the matter and, with the victim’s assistance, were able to find and arrest the man,” he said.

Maphakela added that the driver was detained at Bramley Police Station where he was charged with rape. He has allegedly been linked to four other rape cases. He has since appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to face all five charges.

“The driver was denied bail following two court appearances and is set to appear in court again on 15 June,” he confirmed. The case continues.
