Help Pam get a second chance

SANDTON – Founder of #secondchances, Pam Green, takes to the streets to secure sponsors for her organisation. Here is how you can help!

After almost a year of giving back to the homeless, founder of the initiative #secondchances, Pam Green, has taken to the street to beg for donations and sponsors to keep her initiative going.

Green first entered the public eye when she posted a picture of 22-year-old Joseph Phukube who was begging for a job with his matric certificate and curriculum vitae. Within a few hours of posting the picture, his story went viral and more than a thousand job offers came his way.

She was then inspired to leave her full-time job to start the #secondchances initiative which aimed to give the homeless a second chance at life by taking them off the street and on the road to a better life.

But following 11 months of selfless work, she has not been able to gain sponsors or sufficient donations to carry on and has used much of her savings on the initiative. She took to the corner of Rivonia Road and Grayston Drive with a sign reading ‘Please don’t make me get a job’ to literally beg for donations.

Green said, “We have helped more than 100 people through rehab, job assistance and provided homes. But, unfortunately, we have not been able to secure funding from corporates, so unless we can do that I will have to get a job so I’m on the corner of Grayston Drive and Rivonia Road begging people to help so I don’t have to get a job.”

She added that the initiative is her dream and, with funding, they will be able to carry on their work and will be able to start more programmes to help those in need. “I’m so passionate about this. It is my dream. And it would be a nightmare if I would have to give it up. I really think I can still make a difference for people.”
