Power woes in Bryanston

BRYANSTON - Update on power problems in Bryanston.

According to the latest press release issued by City Power, Khanyisa substation in Bryanston has experienced substantial fire damage to two of its three feeder boards and damage to five of the 16 distributors which supply the area.

Tests were conducted on the transformers and, fortunately, they were found to be clear and in good working condition.

In a bid to speedily restore power to the affected areas, City Power is in the process of installing eight ring main units (RMU) as an interim measure. The RMUs will provide the functionality of the damaged feeder boards.

City Power has secured all replacement equipment which has already been delivered to the site. The entity anticipates that barring any major unforeseen circumstances, the repair process will be completed by midnight and power will be restored intermittently tomorrow morning after all commissioning tests have been completed.

Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp has confirmed that a number of cable theft incidents over the weekend has left multiple houses without power in Bryanston East. “Cable theft between 45 and 49 St James Crescent has caused major problems in the area. The theft has been escalated with City Power.”

Earp added that residents in Boekenhout Street have also been left without power due to a damaged cable. “City Power completed an inspection on Monday morning and confirmed that the cable needed to be replaced, but the depot has accused the contractor of trying to steal cable and would not supply the parts required.”

Affected areas include Country Life Park, Solridge, Bryanston, Vandia Grove and Mill Hill.
