Earlier today, MMC of Finance Geoffrey Makhubo, delivered the Joburg Budget to the media at the Turbine Hall in the Joburg CBD.
The tone was set from the start, as the the MMC mentioned that the theme for this year is “A city that delivers on its commitments.”
Makhubo said that a R54.8 Billion budget will be delivered to council and citizens of Joburg.
According to Makhubo, pensioners over 70 years who own property worth R2 million or less will receive 100% rebate.
He also stated that the Health Department receive R775 million for the 2016/2017 and a 3 year capital budget of R361 million. The health department will also see the roll out of new clinics in some of the areas in Joburg.
A massive R3.2 billion has been allocated to public safety to ensure that communities are kept safe.
JRA received R884.1 million and a 3 year capital budget of R3.5 billion.
A budget debate will be held this Thursday at 9am.
