Fire and theft keeps Bryanston in the dark

BRYANSTON - Ward councillors explain why residents in Bryanston have been without power since 22 May, and when they suspect it will return.

 

Bryanston residents have been without power since Sunday, after a fire broke out at the Khanyisa substation in Bryanston. In a press release made public on 22 May, Johannesburg City Power stated that their technicians were working round the clock to repair the substation.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter expects power to return to the affected areas soon. “There was a fire at the substation. City Power has told us that we can expect power to return within the next 24 to 36 hours.”

Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp reported that cable theft could be the reason for power outages on The River Road and St James Crescent, and has escalated the incident with City Power.
