New party’s mayoral candidate

JOBURG – New party unveils their mayoral candidate for Joburg.

The upcoming local government elections will be highly contested, with new parties also being launched.

Although this is a new party, the members are no strangers to the political landscape. On 19 May, the Building a Cohesive Society (Bacs) unveiled their mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg. Former Congress of the People (Cope) deputy chairperson Lynda Odendaal was announced as the party’s mayoral candidate.

Odendaal, who is also a former ANC member, said their dynamic team of politicians was already on the ground working tirelessly to ensure that their message is heard across all spheres.

Job creation is at the helm of their agenda, as Odendaal said she found the unemployment rate very worrying. “If the private and public sector work together, more jobs will be easily created and the unemployment rate will be lowered.”

She added that her party aimed to give hope to all those who are feeling apathetic about voting. “Our party is home to everyone,” said Odendaal.

Another issue on top of this party’s agenda is policing. and she said if policing could be improved and done properly, crime will go down drastically.

Odendaal sounded optimistic and believes her party will do well on August 3. She said her party has a strong hold in Gauteng and other provinces.

Her integrity and strong moral values are what make her confident that her party will be voted for by South African. Bacs was launched on 26 April and registered with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to participate in the upcoming local government elections. The political party was born out of a foundation which was incepted in 2010 with the purpose of drawing together people and organisations across all walks of life to explore and utilise possibilities of change in society under the protection of the Constitution.

With this said, Odendaal mentioned that her party is open to everyone who wants to bring change to their respective communities.
