Brescia House pupils dance to nationals

BRYANSTON – Three talented young dancers bring home the gold and qualify for Team South Africa 2016 to represent SA at the World Champs of performing Arts in Los Angeles, USA in July

Brescia House School recently congratulated pupils Sabrina Correia, Caprice Jorge and Jade Lavarone for not only scooping up eight medals in the South African Championships of Performing Arts (Sacopa) national competition, but also for qualifying for team South Africa 2016 to represent our country at the World Championships in Los Angeles in July.

The pupils, who are part of Squeak A Takkie Production dance school, took part in national competition, which was hosted in Rustenburg earlier this year.

Lavarone’s mother, Irene said, “The girls were amazing at the South Africa Championship of Performing Arts and it was such a special experience for them.”

Directed by Ellen Roux via Beyond 2000, Sacopa is the only official national competition for both novice and experienced performers and includes acting, English and Afrikaans divisions; dance; vocal, English and Afrikaans divisions; instrumental; modelling; and variety acts.

Irene explained that out of 3 900 entries this year, only 294 entrants qualified for Team South Africa, which is a huge achievement.

“The atmosphere in Rustenburg was buzzing with so many young talented performers. The girls made new friends and had an incredible competition experience, meeting performers from all nine provinces.

“For the girls to receive a medal at this level of competition, they are required to meet the high standards of the World Championship’ criteria. The team brought home a total of eight medals including three gold and five silver,” she said.
