Pikitup regrets delays

JOBURG - Pikitup pleased with its waste recovery plan

Pikitup said it regretted the delays at some of its depots to fully recover its programme to normalise waste collection following its employees’ month-long strike.

In a statement, the utility said the delays were at the Marlboro and Waterval depots and measures were being taken to resolve the problem in these areas. Pikitup said it was pleased with the overall recovery operation plan implementation and would continue to work hard to ensure full waste collection normalisation, in particular, household waste removal.

It said the plan entailed double day and night shifts complemented by resources from other city entities and contracted services with its workers doing their routine refuse collection, street sweeping, picking up of litter and clearing of illegally dumped waste.

The entity also urged residents to play their part by taking recyclable waste to their nearest garden site or recycling centre, adopt a zero tolerance approach to illegal dumping by reporting offenders, and to register complaints with the city’s hotline number 011 375 5555 or by logging them on the JRA Find&Fix App. The app can be downloaded on cellphones for free from the Google Play Store.
