Fluor stops hunger now

Sandton - Volunteers of Fluor South Africa packed over 10 000 meals for Ikageng AIDS Ministry in Soweto.

Fluor, a global engineering and construction company, assisted by Fluor volunteers, recently packed more than 10 000 Stop Hunger Now meals in support of Ikageng Aids Ministry in Soweto.

The ministry is a non-profit organisation which cares for more than 900 orphaned and vulnerable children affected by HIV/Aids in Soweto.

Each pack, which complies with Unicef standards, contained a nutritious protein mix of a soya, rice and vegetable mix and a sachet of 23 essential minerals and vitamins specifically formulated to combat malnutrition.

The 10 300 meals packed at the event will feed 39 children five meals a week for a year. The beneficiaries of the meals are child-headed households supported by the ministry.

“We are grateful to Fluor for the meals donation. Food is essential to our beneficiaries and this donation will enable them to attend school and take their medicines on full stomachs,” said Carol Dyantyi, Ikageng founder and director.

Fluor Cares, Fluor’s formal employee volunteer programme, is the heart of the company’s community involvement efforts. Last year, employees volunteered about 44 000 hours to help enrich the lives of those in their communities through Fluor’s focus areas of education, social services, community and economic development and the environment.
