Female fraudster out on bail

ALEXANDRA - Read about a female fraudster facing two criminal charges at different courts after fleecing her employers.

A Randburg-based woman, who was charged with defrauding her Rivonia-based employer last year, was granted bail by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

The employer was alerted to the crime, allegedly by a whistle-blower who knew of her dismissal by a previous employer who dismissed and pressed charges against her. The previous case was heard before the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court heard that the 39-year-old accused, who held a senior position with financial responsibility, allegedly defrauded the employer of R318 000, but returned R107 500 before the offence was discovered.

It was alleged that she first withdrew R25 000 from the company’s account on 26 February and then R9 890 the following day. She made further withdrawals later which amounted to R318 000 by 30 June. It is unclear why she made the repayment.

The defrauded employer dismissed her after she admitted to the offence and it was said she also lost out on 20 percent shares she had purchased from the company.

The case continues.
