Bryandale Primary School in Sandton recently hosted its first-ever interactive art competition organised and co-ordinated by Irma McCarthy.

“Creative art plays such an important role in children’s lives and we felt we needed to create an awareness of what visual art can do to enrich their lives. So we came up with the idea to host an interactive art competition,” said McCarthy.

Pupils from Rivonia, Bryneven and Montrose primary schools were invited to come to the school and draw either a still life or a portrait. The pupils were given two hours to complete the artwork. McCarthy said, “Prizes for the winners were sponsored by Artkits and Herbert Evans.”

Kayla van Niekerk from Bryandale came in first position, followed by Gabriella Reis from Rivonia in second place and Leandro da Silva from Bryandale in third.

The enthusiastic judges comprised Jacqueline and Heather Sargent from Kyalami Preparatory School and Deidre Spencer from Crawford College, Lonehill.
