Halford Road rehabilitated

SANDTON - Halford Road gets resurfaced at last.

Residents in the Cowdray Park area are pleased that they no longer require 4X4s to negotiate Halford Road.

Ward 104 councillor Michael Wood is very happy with the work carried out on the road which was facing certain collapse. “The JRA [Johannesburg Roads Agency] did an exceptional job of resurfacing Halford Road,” he said.

“We were beginning to worry that the entire road would collapse, meaning higher costs and an extended repair time.”

Wood, along with residents in the area, had signed a petition for work to be carried out on the road. “People throughout the region are doing things like painting kerb signs, stop signs and road markings. They are cleaning streets and trying to do little things to keep their roads safe. But for big projects such as road resurfacing, the JRA needs to step in as it is illegal for residents to do repair work on the roads themselves.”

Wood added that he wanted to thank marketing and communications manager, Bertha Peter-Scheepers, for helping to facilitate the repairs to the road.

JRA spokesperson, Busi Mlotshwa, noted that 27.82 tons of tar were used to patch Halford Road. “We are pleased with the work carried out by our team, and would like to thank the residents for their patience and understanding,” he said. Mlotshwa added that residents should report damaged roads as soon as possible.

Wood also thanked the JRA and depot workers for their proactive attitude and sterling workmanship, as well as the residents of Cowdray Park for being involved in the project.

He asked that community members contact him with any issues in the Ward 104 area.
