Telkom pole saga finally solved

SANDTON - Sandton Chronicle connects Telkom employee to Botes family and expedites issue of collapsing pole.

When a Telkom employee read the article, Collapsing telephone pole worries resident, no solution yet, week ending 15 April, he decided to take action and contact Gallo Manor resident Paul Botes. It was as a result of the actions of this employee, that the Telkom pole was fixed on 15 April, within two days of the article being published.

“I must say that the article in the Sandton Chronicle definitely achieved the desired results whereby the pole was replaced last Friday, 15 April,” said Botes.

“It is most definitely a relief that the pole has been replaced as, not only is the eyesore removed, but the risk posed by the pole collapsing onto the neighbour’s property, together with the possible injuries this may have caused, has been eliminated.”

Botes explained that the pole was replaced by a company outsourced by Telkom. “However a Telkom technician was here to reconnect all the associated telephone lines and waited until he received confirmation from the central exchange that all the lines were operational,” he said.

“The one person who really stood out from a Telkom perspective was the employee who read the article and contacted me. This gentleman not only took the time and trouble to contact me directly, even though the repairing and replacing of the poles does not fall within his department, but also kept in constant contact with either my wife or myself to follow up on the progress in resolving this issue,” highlighted Botes.

He ended off by saying that it is such a relief to have an issue resolved that began almost five months ago.

The Telkom spokesperson was not available for comment when contacted by a Sandton Chronicle journalist.
