Charitable dreams for Sandown student

Sandton – Sandown High School student, Xolisile khumalo, wants to use her success in a pageant to do good in her community.

Sandown High School student, Xolisile Khumalo, came across an advertisement for Zee Miss Teen Commonwealth while scrolling through her Facebook newsfeed.

Khumalo said she had no idea that this competition would lead to a life-changing experience.

She entered the competition for a truly selfless reason as she wanted the opportunity to give back to the community. Khumalo said, “I have reached the final stage in the competition and I am determined to win the title. But winning the title would not be for my gain, but it would offer me the perfect platform to make a difference in the lives of young and underprivileged children.”

She explained that the main reason she entered the competition was to do community service as she has a passion for helping others. “There is nothing more rewarding than making a difference in people’s lives,” added Khumalo.

As a part of her charitable work, she is involved in a project aimed at uplifting the Alexandra community. Khumalo has chosen to work with a non-profit organisation in Alexandra which looks after orphans and vulnerable children.

“I have had great experience with the children at the orphanage and I have been cooking and playing with them. The children have taught me so much and, most importantly, they have taught me how to appreciate the little that I have. The love I have been receiving from the children is beyond my expectations,” explained Khumalo.

“I am very loud and bubbly and I honestly love seeing people happy, especially if I was the one who made them smile,” said Khumalo.

The pageant’s grand finale will be held on 2 July and Khumalo said she is crossing her fingers and would be truly honoured to win.
