Police investigating mayor’s wife’s robbery

SANDTON - Read all the details about the robbery of Mayor Parks Tau's wife in Sandton.

Following the robbery involving an unknown suspect and the wife of City of Joburg Mayor Parks Tau, the police have said that they are continuing their investigation.

The initial robbery occurred on 4 April at 6.45pm. Provincial spokesperson for the police, Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said Philisiwe Twala-Tau returned to her car in the parking lot after attending to business in Sandton.

Twala-Tau added that when she got to her car she found the suspect fiddling with her vehicle. Twala-Tau subsequently screamed for help and the suspect ran off, taking a laptop and a cellphone.

Mofokeng said, “The police are currently investigating the situation and are appealing to community members to come forth with any information regarding the robbery.”

The DA has also weighed in on Twala-Tau’s traumatic experience.

In an official statement, the DA said they were pained that the attack on Twala-Tau shows that no one is safe in the City of Joburg.

The statement went on to say that the incident shows that no-one is safe from rapidly rising levels of crime in Johannesburg, and that the city is failing to secure our people.

“Joburg requires a comprehensive and all-encompassing crime-busting approach,” the statement read.
