Two arrested for breaking in at Atholl Square

ATHOLL – Two men who allegedly broke into two stores in Atholl Square were arrested by security officers.

The incident unfolded when a security guard on night duty at the shopping centre heard a noise coming from the rooftop.

“The security guard investigated the source of the noise and found two suspects walking on the centre’s rooftop,” said Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station.

The guard was able to alert Bramley police and other security personnel who, upon arrival, found that the stores had been broken into.

“The two were then asked why they were on the roof and they responded that they were running away. The police then arrested them,” he said.

Centre management for Atholl Square, Public Investment Corporation, confirmed that they were aware of the arrests at the shopping complex. “We condemn the incident of attempted break-in at Atholl Square and we are pleased that the suspects have been arrested,” the corporation said in a statement.

They added that no similar incidents had been reported recently and reiterated that the centre was well equipped with the necessary security apparatus to handle such issues.

The two suspects were detained at the Bramley Police Station where they were charged with breaking in at a business, and have since appeared in court.
