Heartlines joins Anti-Racism Week

JOHANNESBURG – Heartlines encourages South Africans to join the drive to combat racism

“We need more than one week to tackle racism – but it’s a good place to start,” the centre’s Facebook states.

In January of this year, Heartlines launched their What’s Your Story? campaign that uses personal storytelling to build mutual understanding and trust.

Although the centre supports Anti-Racism Week, they also believe that the mobilisation of such a campaign needs to move beyond a single week. That is why they are once again encouraging South Africans to share their tales using the What’s Your Story? platform.

“Our ultimate aim is to promote social cohesion and reconciliation across races, cultures, classes, and all that threatens to divide us. It is a practical initiative that gives ordinary people tools to use in their daily efforts to combat racism,” a statement from Heartlines read.

Some of the tools included in the Heartlines campaign is a digital and mobile platform that features a number of inspiring stories that can be shared, read and watched. This platform will launch at the end of Anti-Racism Week.

It also has resource packs with guidelines for building a sense of unity through storytelling in the workplace, high school, tertiary education institutes, and places of faith, as well as

inter-generational and inter-sector leadership workshops and retreats.
