St Davids open up opportunities

SANDTON - The pupils of St Davids Marist Inanda and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange opened the JSE market on 3 March in celebration of the launch of the St David’s Marist Inanda Foundation’s Business in Education Fund.

The fund, which was initiated by the school, will bring businesses and private individuals together to invest in the education of pupils from historically disadvantaged backgrounds. Chief executive officer of Adcock Ingram, Andrew Hall said that the company is extremely proud of the fund as it is a testament to all involved and who are socially responsible in creating new leaders. Hall added, “It’s not only about investing in a foundation, but investing in young people and their families.”

The attendees included a few of St David’s Marist Inanda’s bright pupils, and the opening was led by JSE representative and proud parent Sandra Borrageiro who commended the initiative to connect businesses with the school.

With a beautiful spread and musical entertainment from the school’s pupils, the audience waited until 9am to open the JSE market, following a special countdown.

Executive headmaster of the school, Mike Thiel expressed his excitement about the initiative, adding, “Passion-driven education, without it, we’re just going through the motions. So thank you for all your support.”
