All hands on deck to solve crisis in Parkmore

PARKMORE - It was all hands on deck after a pine tree fell onto power lines on the corner of 14th Street and Hilda Road in Parkmore.

This according to resident, Morten Darley, who said within an hour of the incident, emergency services were already at the scene. He was impressed by the co-ordination of City Power, City Parks and the emergency services from Sandton Fire Station.

The tree was cut up and the area was secured as live wires were lying on the road, making the area extremely dangerous.

“Emergency services remained on the scene way past their day shift until they got the go-ahead from City Power that the cables were safe,” said Darley.

“They had to rewire an entire block and install a new pole.”

The street was reconnected within 11 hours.

Darley added, “My thanks to City Power, City Parks and the Sandton Fire Station. Good to see that when a small crisis hits, we can do this together – and in record time.”

City of Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe confirmed the incident. “We acknowledge the appreciation,” she said.
