Slow build-up of water and sewage in Bryanston

BRYANSTON – According to Deborah Gray, a concerned Bryanston resident, there is a puddle of water and sewage slowly building up on Hobart Road in Bryanston.

Gray has reported the health and road safety issue to Joburg Water.

“For months now, there has been a slow build-up of water and sewage,” Gray explained.

“I have contacted Joburg Water to assess what the problem is.”

Gray said no one had come back to her and the situation was still dire.

“The giant puddle of stagnant water with sewage covers half of the road which happens to be on a dangerous and very tight bend. On the same road, we have an old-age home, a nursery school and a business, so the health implications are massive. On top of that, the safety for drivers is now a big issue too.”

She said there was another gaping hole which had been dug up in the same area and had been left open for weeks, and she had no idea what it was for.

After being notified of the resident’s complaint, David Sibiya, spokesperson of Joburg Water, said he escalated the complaint to the relevant depot for attention on 2 February, however, Gray said nothing had been done and there was still water and sewage on the road.

“Nothing has been done and it actually looks worse,” added Gray.

Dudu Lushaba, communication specialist of City of Joburg said, “This issue includes more than one department and, as such, we will co-ordinate the responses and respond.”
