Morningside’s reality TV star

MORNINGSIDE - With an impressive track record as a motivational speaker, author and political figure, Morningside resident, Zareef Minty, has his sights set on influencing youths' mindsets as he takes on the world of TV.

Born in Klerksdorp, the 22-year-old Minty moved to Johannesburg where he is currently a third-year law student at the University of Witswatersrand.

However, he has not lived the typical student life. Along with intensive studies, Minty has been a motivational speaker, has published a book entitled Empire and has served as the National Youth President for the Patriotic Alliance.

Minty is currently one of six inspiring contestants on the fourth season of SABC’s show One Day Leader which premiered on 8 February. The show places six aspirant young South Africans into a house in Randburg and sees them tackle challenging societal issues through debates and challenges.

Minty said, “I really enjoy the fact that the show finds six competent young people. Everyone I am with on the show is exceptional.

“It’s not your typical reality show because people who watch get to see six individuals who are exceptional at what they do, and they all have the same vision for South Africa, which is that they want to see the country progress.”

The young star has great visions for the future and is optimistic as he engages with the talented individuals who share the same vision in rebuilding South Africa on the show.

He concluded, “I envision a country where we, as the youth, raise the standard of the general public moving forward. I see us as the youth, who are currently over 35 million in population, work towards a future where we are important stakeholders. We demand that responsibility of national importance be given to us.”
