Suspect appears in court on assault charges

SANDOWN – A suspect recently appeared in Randburg Magistrates' Court following an alleged assault in Sandton.

The incident took place on 29 January in Sandown when, according to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, the complainant was walking on the pavement when she encountered the suspect.

“The complainant alleges that as she passed the suspect, he hit her with a keyboard cable he was carrying,” Maphakela said.

When the complainant asked why he hit her, the suspect allegedly failed to give a reason and instead apologised for the incident.

Maphakela confirmed that the suspect was then arrested and detained at Sandton Police Station, where he was charged for the incident.

“He was charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and has since appeared in court. The case was postponed.”

The suspect is set to appear in court again on 8 February.

Details: 011 722 4200.
