Officers celebrate National Police Day through sports

ALEXANDRA - The police from the Alexandra Cluster which includes Alex, Sandton, Bramley, Sandringham and Midrand stations put aside the order and command culture as rank and file mingled and pitted each other's skills in sports.

Police members of the Alexandra Cluster which comprises Alex, Sandton, Bramley, Sandringham and Midrand stations put aside the order and command culture on National Police Day, 27 January, as rank and file mingled and pitted their skills against each other in sports.

The day was held at the Altrec Sports Complex, East Bank, to honour the men and women in blue. In casual attire, members used the day to bond and exchange pleasantries on the touch lines while others exposed their mediocre or excellent skills in netball and soccer. Others used the sporting opportunity to shed excess weight that was presumably gained over the festive season.

Cluster commander Major General Zodwa Molefe urged members to use the day in dedication to their call to duty, and in honour of departed colleagues whose names were read during a ceremony. She also urged them to moderate the intake of any substance, which could alter their judgement, conduct and behaviour in order to retain the good name of the service, and to be on time for duty.
