Donate unwanted grass to feed farm animals affected by the drought

BRYANSTON - Project Hope Grass has called on residents to drop off their lawn cuttings at Kitchen Concepts, a cooking school in Bryanston, to help feed farm animals affected by the drought.

Petra Kerkstra, who runs the cooking school, offered her venue as a space where community members in the area could drop off their dry grass to be collected by Project Hope Grass.

“At the moment, we’re battling to get the grass dry because of all the rain we’ve been getting recently,” said Kerkstra.

She added that they only started collecting grass last week, but the response from the community members had been great.

Kate Wardle, deputy chairperson of the Parkmore Community Association, was also supporting the initiative and had started drying grass in her garage.

Kerkstra advised community members to only bring freshly cut grass and to deliver it immediately before it fermented.

“Please bring grass only, no other garden refuse because we will not be able to use it,” added Kerkstra.
