‘Sandton will soon become the Manhattan of South Africa’

SANDTON – The Portuguese business community welcomed the president of the regional government of Madeira, Dr Miguel Albuquerque, at a cocktail function hosted in Sandton.

The event took place at the Sandton Central Square Development and saw Albuquerque address and engage with guests.

The formal event was organised by the South African Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Lushaka Investments, which is behind the Central Square Development project in Sandton. Construction on the second phase of Central Square project, a multi-billion rand, mixed-use development in Sandton, has commenced. It involves the construction of 168 apartments in a 12-storey block adjacent to the World Trade Centre and is scheduled for completion by the middle of 2017.

Sergio Aquino, CEO of Lushaka Investments, also gave an address, highlighting the future prospects of the Central Square Development project.

“It is my prediction that Sandton will soon become the Manhattan of South Africa,” he said.

The visit by Dr Albuquerque to South Africa was the first ever and saw 200 guests present at the formal event.
