The retirement home, based in Mill Hill, Bryanston, hosted over 300 people, including some of the home’s original residents.
Steve de Villiers, general manager of San Sereno, gave a welcoming speech, saying he was pleased to welcome the six residents who were among the first to move to San Sereno when it opened in 1990.
“I believe, in those days, we were surrounded by open veld, with guinea fowl and plovers as our neighbours; today we are surrounded by a number of residential complexes within Mill Hill, a sign of the development and progress of Bryanston and Mill Hill in particular,” he said.
San Sereno houses 169 cottages and 42 one- and two-bedroom apartments while the Nightingale Care Centre has 108 beds for mid and frail care residents.
The retirement village is part of the giant Sanlam Group.
