Taxi overturns on Sandton Drive

SANDTON - Commuters travelling along Sandton Drive witnessed a scary scene when a taxi overturned on the corner of Grayston and Sandton drives on 18 January.

Spokesperson of ER24, Chitra Bodasing, who attended the scene, said a passenger and driver were in the vehicle when it overturned and landed on its roof.

Bodasing added that the taxi driver and passenger were found on the side of the road and were treated by ER24 paramedics for moderate injuries before being transported to the nearest hospital.

She said, “The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”

Spokesperson of Metro police, Chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar said motorists should drive with caution when travelling and should follow the rules of the road in order to avoid accidents.

Minnaar said, “The main cause of these accidents are speeding, overtaking when it’s dangerous to do so and general reckless driving.

“My advice to any motorist is to drive within the speed limit so you will have enough time to break or swerve out the way in the event of this happening.”
