Identify your surroundings by the graffiti

JOBURG - Those who are new to the city – and even those who aren’t – will know how easy it is to become lost, afraid and disorientated.

City Buzz wants to make sure that you’re never lost in the city by giving you a helpful tip on how to identify your surroundings during those times when you’re feeling just a little frazzled.

One of the most common features in Johannesburg is the graffiti that can be seen on almost every wall, pillar and corner.

While graffiti may be in abundance, there are no two pieces that are the same, so learning about the art can help you get around.

Would you know where you were if we showed you this public art?

If you’re here, you can safely say that you’re in Maboneng, on the corner of Fox and Kruger streets.

From here you can walk down Fox Street and see a number of landmarks, hipsters and stores unlike any other in Gauteng.

You could grab a delicious pizza at The Chalkboard which is connected to The Bioscope – an unconventional movie house that shows underground films that did not cut it for the big screen, in addition to the major box office hits of all time.

You could also visit Arts on Main to grab a bite or view art by the likes of David Krut, among others.

The area sees a number of celebrities and international tourists pass through its streets on a daily basis and is also one of the safest places to be in Johannesburg – a factor that can be attributed to the development project that is underway in the area that aims to make it safer, cleaner and more tourist-friendly.

On Fox Street, you can also find a restaurant that serves an array of frozen yoghurts, and a killer curry – all at the same place.

You can explore the city and make the best of being lost in it, so why not visit Johannesburg?
