Gauteng 10111 talks festive season safety

JOBURG - The Gauteng 10111 team wished residents a wonderful and cautious festive season.

Newly-promoted unit commander Brigadier Samuel Stanley Kilian said while residents enjoy the festive season, 10111 will be there for support and is just a phone call away. Kilian said, “Working together against crime will reduce crime statistics in the province. For those who will visit Gauteng and those who will travel to other provinces, stay safe in hotels, homes and airports.”

At the airport ensure that:

  •  Your bags and luggage have locks and name tags
  •  Do not allow people to tamper with your bags
  •  When seeking directions, proceed to marked information counters only.

At the guesthouse, hotel or other accommodation:

  •  Report any suspicious, unattended luggage or parcels to personnel at reception
  •  Never leave your luggage unattended unless it is locked away in your room
  •  Store valuables in the safety deposit box
  •  Keep your room locked.

On the street:

  •  Avoid a flashy display of expensive jewellery, cameras, cellphones and other valuables
  •  Keep your handbag with you closed and zipped and do not leave it unattended
  •  Do not carry large sums of money with you.

In your car:

  •  Plan your route in advance
  •  Keep the doors locked and wind windows up at all times
  •  Do not leave your cellphone or other valuables where they are visible from outside the vehicle
