Rivonia Primary School receives Lego donation

RIVONIA – The pupils of Rivonia Primary School have received a Lego donation from the Randburg Rotary Club for their efforts in looking after the environment.

The prize was for the Rivonia Primary Eco Warriors, the pupils who took bold steps in addressing the many environmental challenges faced by the country. These youngsters raised awareness and funds for an organisation called GreenAble, a non-governmental organisation which invests in training and upskilling disabled woman from impoverished backgrounds through the recycling of ink cartridges.

The Eco Warriors also help with the development of a rescue and owl release programme through FreeMe, an animal rehabilitation centre. This project aims to save rare bird species while reducing the rodent populations.

These youngsters additionally volunteer within programmes linked to the many less fortunate schools within the area.

Recognised by entities beyond the parameters of their school environment, the Lego donation offered the youngsters an opportunity to be appreciated for the work they do. “Their efforts became more meaningful and it is hoped this will act as a catalyst for them to continue their humanitarian work in the many years they have ahead of them,” said Clive Smedmor, Randburg Rotary president.
