Tara Hospital is behind people living with HIV/Aids

HURLINGHAM - Tara Hospital commemorated World Aids Day at the institution in Hurlingham with a fun walk and an educational talk.

Staff members participated in the fun walk around the soccer field. The walk was led by senior managers including CEO Dr Florence Otieno, admin manager Rajen Doorasamy and nursing manager Simon Nhleko.

A formal event took place at the hospital’s recreation hall where different speakers hosted educational talks which emphasised the various issues faced by people living with HIV, and their challenges with trying to live a healthy lifestyle.

Mixo Ngobeni, employee health and wellness programme co-ordinator at the hospital, advised the audience to protect themselves and their loved ones from the disease. She further encouraged those who were living with HIV to live a positive life and said living with the disease did not mean the end of the world.

Tara Hospital’s peer educators spoke about the importance of eating balanced meals to keep healthy and strong. They also encouraged everyone to have a vegetable garden at their place of residence to have quick and easy access to healthy foods.

A drama was performed at the end as entertainment but also as education, encouraging those who live with HIV to take their medication.
