Taxi driver bust for possession of stolen taxi

WOODMEAD – A taxi driver was recently arrested by Sandton police for allegedly driving a stolen taxi.

The incident took place in Woodmead during an operation by the Taxi Violence task team, which was transporting impounded taxis from the area.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton police, during this operation, one of the taxis allegedly left the convoy of cars.

“The police then pursued the rogue taxi and managed to stop the driver before conducting a search in the vehicle,” he explained.

The police then tested the vehicle and discovered that it had been reported as stolen in Rustenburg. Maphakela confirmed that the driver was then arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

“The suspect has since made an appearance at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face those charges,” he said. The case continues.
