Woman allegedly offered R2 500 after being raped in Sandown

SANDOWN – A woman was allegedly offered R2 500 to keep quiet after she was raped by her boyfriend’s friend in Sandown.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, said the 25-year-old woman opened a rape case at the station.

“She was in Sandown with her boyfriend. He then left for work and left her in bed sleeping,” explained Maphakela.

“While she was sleeping, her boyfriend’s friend came into the room. She said she only [woke up when] he penetrated her. She tried to push him off, but he was too powerful and overpowered her.”

Maphakela said another friend of the boyfriend allegedly came into the room and walked back out without asking what was happening. “She said the other friend [allegedly] claimed he thought she had consented to the sex,” added Maphakela.

He said the woman refused to take the money she was offered to keep quiet and reported the incident to police.

The suspect has since been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
