HOT 91.9FM giving back to the community

JOBURG - HOT 91.9FM celebrated not only one year in the entertainment industry but one year of giving back to the community.

It was on 17 November 2014 when HOT 91.9 came on to the scene as the newest radio station on the air and boasting some of the most seasoned names on the radio such as Mark Pilgrim, Jeremy Mansfield, Sasha Martinengo and Darren Scott, among others.

Founder and managing director of the young up-and-coming radio station, Lloyd Madurai, addressed the crowd in attendance at La Vie en Rose for the birthday celebration.

“HOT 91.9 defined itself and positioned itself as what was to instantly become Joburg’s best old school and RnB station,” he said.

Apart from becoming a prominent radio station in the industry, the station – which started with nothing – has helped a number of organisations in various ways, one of which has been by raising money and donating it to worthy causes.

Some of the organisations that the station has provided help to include the SPCA, Women and Men Against Child Abuse and Gift of the Givers.

In addition, the station has been running a training and development programme for aspiring radio DJs, where they gain invaluable learning and insight from top industry experts.

Since the inception of the programme six months ago, the station has trained 30 students who are now ready and equipped to work at any radio station.

“Today I’m proud to stand here 365 days later at the anniversary of HOT 91.9’s first birthday, feeling blessed for what we have accomplished,” Madurai said.

“The success of HOT 91.9 is not because of a single individual, but a passionate team that has now evolved into a family believing in a clear vision to create radio from the heart and help those less fortunate in the community.”

The station that used continental pillows as makeshift soundproofing for their modest studio is now well on its way to becoming the top radio station in Gauteng – and they’re helping others on the way.
