Krispy Kreme delights children at local hospital

JOBURG – In the lead-up to the highly-anticipated opening of the first Krispy Kreme SA store, the doughnut giant handed out pastry treats to the children’s ward at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital on 18 November.

The doughnut brand teamed up with the Smile Foundation to do the deed.

The paediatric department at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital offers general paediatric and neonatal care to thousands of patients across Africa, while the Smile Foundation is an NGO dedicated to giving free corrective surgery and treatments to children with facial conditions and works closely with the staff at the hospital.

Krispy Krene wanted to add a little happiness, and so, between 10am and 12pm on the day, Krispy Kreme staff handed out a total of 400 doughnuts to staff members, children and parents in the paediatric ward.

Gerry Thomas, Krispy Kreme South Africa CEO stated, “To us, this is an opportunity to show the South African public that we are aware of our responsibilities to our communities and that we are committed to using this wonderful international brand name to make a difference in the lives of our society as a whole.”

The new Krispy Kreme branch to open at The Zone in Rosebank on 25 November marks the the 800th international store and is the very first to be launched on the African continent.
