Forest Farm Centre residents go on a trip to Hartebeespoort Dam

SANDTON – The Forest Farm Centre residents in Sandton were treated to a trip to Hartebeespoort Dam.

The residential facility for adults with cerebral palsy took its residents to enjoy a sunny day out at the dam.

“The atmosphere was tangibly vibrant from the excitement of the residents,” said Bulelwa Mahura, a social worker at the centre.

“The journey from the centre to the dam was refreshing. There was a cool breeze blowing and a cheerfulness among the residents and staff that was so genuine and wonderful to behold.”

Mahura said once they arrived at the dam, everyone worked together to get all the residents – more than 100 of them – onto a boat. “Off we cruised on the waters of the Hartebeespoort Dam,” she added.

“There was great entertainment from a singer who called himself Bilo. He sang familiar tunes that the residents could relate and sing along to. Some of the staff and residents got onto the dance floor and boogied away.”

Everyone was treated to a lunch of hamburgers, chips and cool drinks to end off the day’s events.

“All the residents and staff members of Forest Farm Centre expressed deep and heartfelt gratitude to Boaters World and Squire’s Loft who made this outing possible,” said Mahura.

She added that even though the trip takes place annually, it continued to be a gift that did not get old. “It renews the spirits of all of us, and keeps us going until the next time.”
