Saying goodbye to school years

SANDTON - While most matric pupils are getting ready to move forward in life with high school behind them, Crawford College matrics Katherine Nel and Mari-Elle Sudarkasa will take their school lessons with them after being with the institution their entire youth.

Both students entered the Crawford Sandton family when they stepped through the school gates in Grade 000. Nel said her earliest memory as a three-year-old at the school was painting with her hands and feet; while Sudarkasa expressed fondly remembers the drawing and colouring from her early years in class.

“What’s so important about this school is that it has always given us the opportunity and freedom to do whatever we want to do such as sport, or academics and they help you with that,” said Nel.

Sudarkasa elaborated, “I think there are a lot of schools that tend to see a pupil as an academic or sportsman and solely focuses on that while Crawford gives pupils the chance to be well-rounded.”

Both pupils are doing their final exams with White Honours Blazers with scrolls displaying their successes.

Nel added that they are both proud of their 15 years at the school and will hold the experience close to their hearts.

Nel will move onto tertiary education at the University of Cape Town to study medicine while Sudarkasa is currently waiting for a response from a few American institutions she has applied to.

Giving advice to the Grade 1 pupils starting out at Crawford, Nel concluded, “I think the beauty of this school is that it will let you be who you want to be. My advice would be to try new things and Crawford Sandton is one of the best places for that.”
