Joburg roads closed on 15 November

JOBURG - Joburg residents be warned that the city will be shut down on Sunday, 15 November, for the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge.

The challenge is set to take place this Sunday and that means a number of beneficiaries will receive a portion of the funds raised by competitors, but it also means that a number of the roads in and around Joburg will be closed during the day.

The race is set to start at The Riversands Commercial Park, with riders making their way around Joburg and back to the start venue.

This year, the 19th consecutive year that the challenge has taken place, it is expected that 35 000 riders will take part in the event, so road closures may very well be effective throughout the day.

These are the roads you should avoid during the challenge:

Each of these roads will be closed at different times throughout the day, in the respective order.

There will also be a number of road safety and awareness campaigns running during the month, aimed at keeping motorists safe by using neon lights and stickers while riding bicycles.

While it may be a schlep to find a detour to your intended destination on Sunday, the challenge takes place for a good cause.

The Ride for a Purpose campaign raised more than R14 million for charity last year and this year there are five beneficiaries to which the funds will be donated.

It is going to be a race to remember, so if you’re not taking part maybe staying at home on Sunday is your best bet.
