Police foil attempted armed robbery in Kramerville

KRAMERVILLE – The Sandton police foiled an attempt by three suspects to rob four pedestrians in Sandton on 24 October.

The complainant and his three friends were walking along the road in Kramerville when three suspects in a red Toyota Corolla stopped next to them.

According to Sandton police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, one of the suspects ordered the men to come closer to the car. When the men approached the car the suspects got out of their vehicle and one allegedly pointed a firearm at them while the other two are said to have searched them for valuables.

“As this was unfolding, police officers in their patrol vehicle saw the incident and stopped, at which point the suspects attempted to hide the firearm,” said Maphakela.

The officers ordered the pedestrians and the suspects to lie on the ground. The victims managed to persuade the officers that the three suspects were trying to rob them.

Maphakela confirmed that the police arrested the suspects and that a toy firearm was recovered in the car. The three suspects were detained at Sandton Police Station and were charged with attempted armed robbery.

The men have since appeared at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
