Two speed off with stolen tablet on William Nicol Drive

SANDTON – A victim of theft warned motorists to be vigilant along William Nicol Drive in Sandton.

The victim, who did not wish to be named, said that while she was in her car she spoke to a woman who was inside a vehicle next to her.

“The woman was on the passenger side of an old red car with faded paint and she asked me for directions at the corner of William Nicol Drive and Stirling Avenue,” explained the victim.

“There was a bald freckled man in the driver’s seat. Apparently their phone’s battery had died and they needed to make a call to the person they were headed to.”

She said while she was trying to help them, the woman grabbed her Samsung tablet and the two sped off.

“No-one else should fall for this trap,” added the victim.

“As they drove off I also realised that their car had no number plates at the back.”

She said the woman in the car was big, had blonde hair streaked with brown while the man was lean, bald and extremely freckled. “They both looked like they were in their 30s,” she added.

“That’s as much as I can remember, it all happened very fast. I think the man also had light brown eyes.”

The victim said she did not open a case with the police.

“It is important for people to report crime to the police,” said Lieutenant Colonel Andre de Klerk of Sandton police.

He added that he was unaware of any other similar reported incidents in the area.
