Beauty for the beast

JOBURG - Since its inception in 2012, Project Pedicure has had many celebrities support their cause, including Leigh-Ann Mol, Miss Earth South Africa 2013; Ashanti Mbanga; and Miss Earth 2014 finalist, Michillay Brown.

This year, radio personality Cleone Cassidy and model, actress and businesswoman, Shashi Naidoo, immediately agreed to be a part of the cause this year, as they are both animal lovers.

The project aims to raise funds for shoes for Tembisa’s working horses through The Society for Animals in Distress (Said). “I have always been a lover of animals and to see an animal in distress is really something that affects me quite badly. This project aims to provide the working equine and their owners in the Tembisa area with access to improved productivity and well-being so when I was asked to be a part of the campaign, I jumped at the chance as it is such a unique initiative and it’s not often that your pedicure partner is a horse,” said Naidoo.

Said works in eight townships in the north and north-east of Johannesburg.

Within Tembisa, the organisation services about 120 horses through The Coal-Yard Project which was established in 2004 and provides education, professional veterinary care and expertise in ensuring healthy animals and responsible ownership.

Owners of The Laser Beautique, Tzvia and Neil Hermann, felt the synergy and objective of the campaign was well suited to their business and decided it was their opportunity to pay it back by providing support to an underprivileged community whilst benefiting the horses that enable their owners to secure a living by providing coal to the community.

“We hope to assist Said in providing not only funds for their project but also to create awareness among the public of the fantastic work they do for these communities and the domestic animals that live with them,” said Tzvia.

This year, the organisation challenges the public to match their donation of gifting 60 horses with shoes. You can show support by going to any Laser Beautique and having a pedicure. Quote Project Pedicure when booking, and they will donate a percentage to Said.
