If you must light fireworks …

JOBURG – Remember, remember… November has begun and so festivities such as Guy Fawkes, Diwali and even New Year’s Eve are looming ever closer.

Although fireworks are deemed illegal across most of the country, many Guy Fawkes enthusiasts and devout Hindu religion followers feel the need to celebrate with fireworks.

Apart from the disconcerting animal welfare aspect, the pending firework season has prompted the ER24 paramedic group to urge people to be very careful when lighting fireworks.

“Paramedics have, in the past, attended to people who sustained severe injuries in incidents involving fireworks,” said spokesperson for the group, Chitra Bodasing.

“The incorrect use of fireworks could lead to severe or fatal injuries.”

ER24 has suggested the following safety tips for those wanting to ‘light up the night’ during the coming holidays:
