Mhere accused postponement denied

RANDBURG - The defence team of Preshalin Naidoo, the driver involved in the death of Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere, requested on 29 October that the trial be postponed, however, postponement was denied.

According to reports, Naidoo’s attorney, Francois Roets, who appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on the morning of 19 October, requested the two-day trial be postponed as their expert could not present a comprehensive report due to the death of his mother.

Magistrate Ndivhuwo Setusha, while sympathising with the expert, denied the request as the matter had been postponed numerous times since it was first brought to court on 4 June.

According to reports, Roets recused himself from the case. The matter will continue with instructing attorney Satch Govender.

Mhere died on 31 January after he was involved in a collision with Naidoo on William Nicol Drive. It is alleged that the accused ramped the island on William Nicol Drive before crashing into Mhere’s vehicle. He is facing a charge of culpable homicide.
