The academy, hailed as a first-of-its-kind, is now accepting pupils from Grade 7 to 12 and was launched in partnership with the prestigious Mountain Cambridge School.
Tebogo Kgobokoe, a well-known choreographer and owner of the academy, explained the uniqueness of the academy, saying it was a dance education system which placed a strong emphasis on merit and uncompromising academic standards.
“This means that [the] South African youth will get the privilege of both an academic and dance education at the school,” she said.
“It is widely known that the skills and competencies that one gains through a disciplined sport such as dance contribute significantly towards excellence in all areas of life.”
She added that the academy, through its combination of dance and academics, would present an opportunity for young people to create meaningful lives for themselves beyond school.
Auditions will begin on 18 October, with the ones in Rivonia are set to take place on 23 and 25 October.
Young dancers are also reminded to have basic training in any one of the following dance styles: Latin, ballroom, contemporary, traditional dance, ballet, freestyle, modern, acrobatic and rhythmic gymnastics when they come for their auditions.
Kgobokoe concluded by saying that, “There is no measure for talent. Hard work, sound moral grounding, perseverance and excellence are the only way to stay ahead of the pack.”
She has taught dance for over 16 years and has devoted most of her time to the development of dance and sport in rural areas in South Africa.
