Hit and run driver sought

FOURWAYS – Sandton police are investigating an accident that left a 38-year-old-woman hospitalised after she was run over on the corner of Lonehill Boulevard and Main Road.

The driver of the vehicle disappeared without leaving his details after an ambulance arrived to take the woman to hospital.

According to resident Louise Birkner, her helper, Magdalein Mabolane, was on her way to work when she was run over by a grey Tucson with a Cape Town registration. Birkner alleged that the driver skipped a red robot and hit Mabolane full on.
“He has caused such upheaval and she will not be able to work for three months, minimum. There are hospital bills, suffering and a lot of pain that he needs to account for,” Birkner said.
Mabolane said, “I want the person to be found, he must pay for what he has done. Despite the driver apologising and taking my number, he hasn’t called back since.” Mabolane said she had to have surgery on her leg which was badly fractured.
It is believed that the suspect resides in Fourways.
Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale Police Station, urged the public to always take the registration number down when involved in an accident. “Although it can be done, tracking a vehicle without the number plate is very difficult,” he said.
