Motorists ease into EcoMobility Festival in Sandton

SANDTON – Motorists were eased into the EcoMobility Festival on the first Monday of the month-long initiative, with traffic signals, billboards, cycle lanes and street markings letting the community know the festival was underway.

Although West Street is one of the main streets closed off, two lanes are, however, kept open for motorists coming from Sandton Gautrain Station and the opposite direction.

There was a heavy Metro police presence in the Sandton CBD as well as street marshals handing out EcoMobility Festival pamphlets and directing people and motorists.

Pedestrians walked the streets easily, however, not a lot of cyclists were spotted on the cycle lanes. Sandton was unusually quiet with Tuk-Tuks and meter taxis parked at various corners in the area and minibus taxis operating as usual in the public transport lanes around the Sandton CBD along with the Gautrain buses.
