Cycle routes set up for EcoMobility Festival

SANDTON - During the Ecomobility Festival, which launched on 4 October, the primary mode of transport that is being urged in the Sandton CBD, is cycling.

There are dedicated cycle routes in the area.

The City of Johannesburg has also begun its rollout of safe and attractive cycle routes for all citizens. For the EcoMobility Festival, four pop-up cycle lanes have been created, making it safer and easier to cycle into Sandton.

The City has organised park and cycle facilities at Pick n Pay on Nicol, and Morningside Shopping Centre, allowing cyclists to park their cars at these locations for a nominal fee.

The cycle routes are as follows:

  •  Rosebank to Sandton

This route which services the Rosebank CBD starts on Cradock Avenue and enters the Sandton CBD via Alice Lane. The length of the route is 5.39km

  •  Alexandra to Sandton

This route will start at the Pan Africa Taxi Rank in Alexandra and enter the Sandton CBD via Linden/Maude Street with a length of 3.17km

  •  Morningside to Sandton

This route starts at the Morningside Shopping Centre and allows cyclists to access the CBD via West Street, and will be a 2.8km cycle. Cyclists will be able to park their cars at the centre and pay a nominal fee to utilise this service

  •  Pick n Pay on Nicol to Sandton
