Cellular companies come together for breast cancer

SANDTON – The Inanda Club recently played host to the Cell C Playing For Pink Ladies Invitational Polo media launch ahead of the exciting fundraiser polo match.

The match, taking place in October, is a proud association between Cell C, Edith Unlimited and Samsung and will see the Cell C team take on the Samsung team – all to raise funds for non-profit organisation Reach For Recovery and their Ditto project.

Speaking on behalf of Reach For Recovery was Colleen Smith, a cancer survivor and chairman of the Gauteng South Johannesburg volunteer for Reach For Recovery, who thanked the organisers for coming together for the worthy cause.

She also explained that the work done by the organisation was to help recent cancer survivors by providing them with non-medical bags filled with necessary supplies.

“This initiative was started by one woman, Terese Lasser, who realised that women who’ve just survived breast cancer also needed non-medical support during recovery,” she said.

“We are grateful for events such as this one as they fill up the coffers for our projects, including the Ditto project, which supplies survivors who’ve lost a breast with prostheses.”

Adding to this was Edith Venter, founder of Edith Unlimited, who thanked sponsors for their involvement in helping to raise funds for Reach For Recovery.

She also spoke briefly about the involvement with Reach for Recovery, saying she was proud to be associated with an organisation doing such good work. “We’re so excited to host the match and for such a worthy cause and it really is all about having a fabulous time,” she added.

Suzette van der Merwe, executive for Cell C Foundation, concluded by expressing excitement ahead of the match, adding that the cause was one which allowed the company “to empower women by helping them through the process of recovery and discovery”.

The polo match will take place on 4 October and will see three female South African players pitted against three female players from Zimbabwe in a highly-anticipated clash.

The event will also feature development players from the club showcasing their craft.
