50 cars towed away at Major League Gardens event in Sandton

SANDTON – A total of 50 cars were towed away by Metro police at the Major League Gardens event which took place at Innesfree Park in Sandton on 19 September.

This according to Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar who said the cars were parked illegally and disrupted traffic in the area. “For the owners of the cars to get back their vehicles they will have to pay R2 510 per car,” he said.

Ward 91 councillor Andrew Stewart said he received a number of complaints about the parking issue and the loud noise at the park. He added that he was in talks with the City of Johannesburg to limit big music events at the park to one event per quarter, following recurring complaints from residents living in the area. “We are just waiting for the agreement to be put into writing,” he added.

Reports also stated that the organisers of the event, Bandile and Banele Mbere, have vowed to never have the event in Sandton again because there were too many regulations.

The organisers apparently said there were more people than what the venue could accommodate, but they also blamed the police for not ensuring that the event ran smoothly.
